West Valley City (USA) - Remington's happy ending was within reach when the German shepherd was adopted by a family just over a month ago. But then the four-legged friend was suddenly returned to the animal shelter. The animal's fate was heartbreaking, and not just for the staff. For this reason, a carer now shows how bad it is for the pets when they are returned.

"When she realized what was happening, she cried loudly in the foyer," the nurse recalls on Instagram . "It took her over an hour to calm down."

The staff at the facility in the US state of Utah did everything they could to comfort her, but Remington was deeply saddened. "She just lay there," the staff member continued. "Her head was resting on a toy duck and she wasn't moving... My heart was broken."

In a video, the German shepherd can be seen lying almost apathetically on the floor, her eyes staring into space. You can see that the animal has given up all hope of a better life.

And her carer has even more fears: Even before she was adopted, the dog was already showing kennel collars and what is known as "kennel spinning", a phenomenon that occurs in stressed or anxious animals that are kept in a kennel for long periods of time. "I'm sure she'll start doing it again soon."

Remington would be a "beautiful old soul who really just needs some patience and love", the article continues. Since her return, the dog has been "inconsolable" and "broken".

At her advanced age, she simply didn't deserve to be stuck in an animal shelter. It is therefore hoped that the touching Instagram video will now attract enough attention to find a suitable family for the dog.

Perhaps fate will be kind to Remington this time and she will finally find happiness.
