Mario Salcedo has been sailing the world 's oceans for over 20 years and has now completed his 1000th cruise.

And always on the same ships. He swears by the ocean liners from Royal Caribbean. The Cuban-born traveler spoke to Condé Nast Traveler back then about his passion for travel.

"When I turned 45, I wanted to start a new chapter and travel the world," he said.

After trying out various travel providers, he found happiness on board the Royal Caribbean ships: "Nothing could tempt me away because I was treated like a king there," says Salcedo.

But the 74-year-old doesn't just relax on board, he also works for five hours a day, as AllThingsCruise reports. He has even been given his own little office corner on one of the cruise ships for this purpose.

Man hides 50 weeks a year on the high seas

To keep costs as low as possible, Salcedo reveals that he always books his trips two years or 150 trips in advance. The 74-year-old spends around 97,000 euros a year on living on the ship.

The seafarer is also on board for around 50 weeks a year. He spends just 15 days ashore. He uses these days for medical appointments or to get to the next departure point.

So it's no surprise that the 74-year-old has lost his "land legs".

He reveals to AllThingsCruise that he sometimes finds it difficult to walk in a straight line because he sways so much.
