Massacre in small village: gang kills dozens of residents
Port-au-Prince - According to media reports, gang members have killed dozens of people and injured others in a night-time attack on a small village in Haiti .

The police of the poor Caribbean state confirmed the attack on the civilian population in Pont-Sondé without giving a casualty figure. The Ministry of Justice spoke of numerous dead and injured, as reported by local media.
According to the newspaper "Le Nouvelliste", at least eleven people were killed in the attack by the Gran Grif gang. At least 20 others were seriously injured. The radio station Galaxie, citing a local official, reported a "massacre" with 54 to 65 dead. The exact number could not be determined due to the constant threat of the gangs.
The Haitian National Police called on the population to remain calm. Officers from the Temporary Antigang Unit (UTAG) have already stepped up security on the ground. According to the official statement, a base of the UDMO police authority in the municipality of Saint-Marc was also attacked.
Both villages are located in the department of Artibonite, north of the capital Port-au-Prince.
Armed gangs have villages under their control

Haiti has been suffering for years from the violence of heavily armed gangs, most of which have Port-au-Prince under their control.
The violence is also spreading to other regions. Last year, the UN office in Haiti expressed its concern about the brutality of the Gran Grif (Big Claw) against the population in the Artibonite Valley.
A multinational protection force led by Kenya is currently trying to restore public order in Haiti.
The multinational security mission with a planned 3000 troops was approved by the UN Security Council last October.
The first Kenyan police officers only arrived in Haiti in June - so far there are only a few hundred officers.
