When the white hunger comes: grizzly chills in the snow and munches on flakes
Colorado Springs (Colorado/USA) - Winter can be a lot of fun! Especially in the US state of Colorado, the frosty months can traditionally be strictly continental and very harsh. Anyone who is attracted to cold and snow is therefore in exactly the right place in this state in the west of America, which is criss-crossed by the Rocky Mountains. Incidentally, this also applies to animals with particularly thick fur.

At first glance, 19-year-old grizzly bear Emmett has an unusual hobby. Surrounded by the beautiful white splendor, he clearly feels right at home - and goes snow hunting cross-legged.
According to information from"Fox21 News Colorado", the local Cheyenne Mountain Zoo took the fascinating photos of the grizzly in the first week of November, showing him in a totally relaxed chilling pose.
On the zoo's own Instagram channel, internet users were amazed when the four-legged friend leaned his head back and stuck out his long tongue to lick up gently falling snowflakes.
The snow, which piled up meters high around Emmett and covered his thick fur, seemed to have really put the grizzly in a cozy winter mood.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has a wide range of heavyweights on offer

The short clip, which spread like wildfire on social media, raised a number of questions that seemed entirely justified.
For example, some users were curious to know whether Emmett doesn't hibernate in winter.
The zoo had a clear answer to this. Some larger animals, which certainly include grizzly bears, can put on enough weight to survive the colder months without hibernating.
However, bears do go into hibernation in winter, where their body systems slow down and sleep more, but unlike classic hibernation, they still wake up.
Incidentally, Emmett is not alone at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo: together with his long-time roommate Digger, the two have formed a strong bear team since 2007.
