Miami - A baby was miraculously conceived through a ventilation shaft in a prison in the US state of Florida.

In the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, inmates Daisy Link (29) and Joan Depaz (23) have conceived a child - without ever having slept together.

Last week, the two offenders explained to US broadcaster"7News Miami" how they managed to conceive despite the unromantic circumstances. "I wrapped my semen in aluminum foil about five times a day for a month," Depaz explained.

Using a rope made from bed materials, he transported his semen through the ventilation shaft into Link's cell, where she inserted the sperm and actually became pregnant. Her daughter was born in June and has been growing up with her father's mother ever since. Mom and dad can see their child via video chat.

The woman, who is behind bars for the murder of her ex-boyfriend, said after the successful birth: "She's a miracle baby, she's a blessing." The 23-year-old is also serving time for murder. He is now a "celebrity" in the prison. The couple have since been transferred to different prisons.

Meanwhile, a paternity test confirmed that Depaz is the father of the child. A doctor told the US broadcaster that althoughthe probability of becoming pregnantin this strange way was less than five percent, it was not zero.
