"It kind of knocked me out and I can't see anything anymore," the 77-year-old told the US talk show "Good Morning America". His left eye is "not the best either".

As a result, he is currently "unable to read or look at anything".

His eye problem also hinders him in his work as a musician, John said. "There is hope and encouragement that it will get better." But at the moment it's kind of stuck.

He contracted the eye infection in the south of France in the summer, John said. The pop legend ("Rocket Man") announced on Instagram in September that his vision had been impaired since the infection.

The singer can currently be seen in his documentary "Elton John: Never Too Late".

The film, directed by John's husband David Furnish, provides an insight into the musician's life.
