Hostel scandal: Nine people in custody - shocking details come to light!
Laos -There are new developments following the deaths of six foreign tourists from methanol poisoning in a backpacker hostel: Harrowing allegations emerge against the staff and several employees have been arrested.
A total of six people died in a tragic mass poisoning in a backpacker hostel. Eleven others are still in a critical condition in hospital.
As Daily Mail reports, the dead include four young women Holly Bowles (†19) and Bianca Jones (†19) from Australia, Anne-Sofie Orkild Coyman (†20) and Freja Vennervald Sørensen (†21) from Denmark, Briton Simone White (†28) and American (†57) James Louis Hutson.
The incident caused worldwide horror and raised numerous questions about the circumstances.
Eight Vietnamese employees aged between 23 and 47 as well as the manager of the hostel and bar are currently at the center of the investigation.
The staff were arrested by the police on Monday and are currently in custody, as is the manager.
Shocking accusations are made against the staff
A friend of the two Danish backpackers claims that the hostel staff did not help the friends when they showed signs of methanol poisoning.
Instead, another woman at the hostel is said to have assisted the pair after the hostel refused to call an ambulance.
A member of staff reportedly tried to massage the feet of one of the women who had suffered an epileptic seizure, claiming she could save the woman. The staff interpreted the symptoms as a panic attack and not as poisoning.
This account contradicts media reports that the women were found lifeless in their bathroom.
Furthermore, in an official statement, the police have so far only mentioned three deaths, although a total of six victims have been linked to methanol poisoning.
What is known so far about the deceased persons
Among the latest victims are Australians Bianca Jones and Holly Bowles from Melbourne. The two young women died one day after the other in hospital from brain swelling caused by high methanol levels in their bodies.
The two Danish women Anne-Sofie Orkild Coyman and Freja Vennervald Sørensen also died after vomiting blood for over 13 hours.
Simone White, a 28-year-old British lawyer, was in hospital with two friends but was initially sent away with a diagnosis of simple food poisoning. Simone later died and all help came too late for her.
57-year-old American James Louis Hutson was found dead in his room at the Nana Backpacker Hostel on November 13. Several bottles of beer and vodka were lying next to him.
All of these tragic deaths appear to be linked to methanol poisoning caused by contaminated drinks.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
