Horrific death while decorating: Christmas decoration grills 24-year-old

Escondido (USA) - A tragic loss just before Christmas: Antonio Pascual Mateo (†24) was hanging Christmas lights in Escondido, Southern California, when a fatal accident happened to him. After being electrocuted, rescue workers fought for his life - unfortunately in vain in the end.

On the morning of November 21, Mateo decorated his house with Christmas decorations. In the process, he threw a string of lights over a high-voltage power line, according to a report from the San Diego coroner's office.

The 24-year-old suffered a severe electric shock! The emergency services were immediately alerted to the horrific scene: Mateo was hanging upside down from a tree!

He was rescued and immediately taken to hospital. An emergency doctor carried out "intensive resuscitation measures". However, after around one and a half hours, the young man could only be pronounced dead.

In the meantime, the family of the deceased has also set up a GoFundMe donation page to bring his remains back to his home country of Guatemala for burial.

Donation page for Antonio Pascual Mateo raises around 10,000 euros

An initial amount of 10,000 dollars (around 9520 euros) was announced, which was increased to 20,000 (19,040) shortly afterwards. After all, the first target was reached within a few days! At this point, 10,025 dollars have already been collected from 190 donations.

"We changed the target amount after carefully considering the cost of organizing the funeral here in California and transporting him to Guatemala so that he could be buried in his birthplace and his mother could receive him there," explains Juan Pascual, the initiator of the appeal.

"He was a brother, a son and an uncle. [...] He always took care of his mother and his family," reads the attached obituary. Mateo would forever remain in the hearts of those left behind.
