The homeowner last wanted just under 250,000 US dollars (approx. 225,000 euros) for the smart detached house in Dolton, a suburb of Chicago.

But that was last week. Now the little house with just under 70 square meters of living space on East 141st Place is worth many times more, reports NBC Chicago.

This is because none other than Robert Prevost (69), also known as Pope Leo XIV, grew up in the modest house. The Holy Father spent his childhood here, growing up in the shelter of his family: with his mother Mildred Agnes, father Louis Marius and his two older brothers Louis Martin and John Joseph. The pontiff still owns an apartment in the area.

On May 5, just three days before Prevost took office, the owner put the property up for sale on a real estate platform in the USA.

"Three levels of living await you in this immaculately renovated single-family home," the ad read. "This affordable, move-in ready brick home is located on a quiet block and features three bedrooms, two baths and is almost completely new."

This is how much the owner of Pope House paid for the property

Real estate agent Steve Budzik confirmed to NBC Chicago that the house will not be sold after all. He had only found out about the famous ex-resident through journalists. When he told the owner the good news, he said: "That's great. It's better than winning the lottery."

In the meantime, several serious purchase offers have been received. The estate agent knows that his client could make good use of the money, as his wife is pregnant.

The investment was probably more than worth it for the homeowner. In 2024, he bought the house for just 66,000 dollars (approx. 59,400 euros). How much it is worth now remains to be seen.
