On the highest mountain on the island - Puig Major (1445 meters) - there was a five-centimeter-thick layer of snow on Saturday.

According to geographer Albert Darder Rosell, who reports on X from the spot, it was already snowing at an altitude of 1300 meters.

He adds that it was the biggest snowfall in the past two years.

The day before, the meteorologist had already announced that the conditions were ideal for snow.

As the "Mallorca Magazin" writes, snow in the Tramuntana mountains is important for the drinking water supply on the Balearic island. This is because it stores the water and then releases it into the ground.
