A woman invites 30 girls to a party: What happens next turns everything upside down
California (USA) - Six weeks of planning, decorations, menus, gift bags: Beka Gillis (32) put a lot of love into her party, to which she had invited 30 girls. In the end, only seven of the ladies accepted. But in the end, not a single one of them showed up! Gillis, who is new to the US state of California and is trying to make contacts there, was devastated. But then things took another turn.
The photographer grabbed her cell phone to record one of her many video diaries, which hardly anyone clicks on TikTok anyway.
Actually, she just wanted to get her frustrations off her chest. But she turned everything upside down. Instead of just a few clicks, more than a million have been collected since the end of December.
"I definitely didn't think a video of me crying would go viral, and I certainly didn't think the comments would be so supportive and kind," said the Californian in an interview with Newsweek this week.
While Gillis had been let down by her girls, many other women were now flocking to build her back up with encouraging comments.
But why had she been so unlucky with her party in the first place?

"I'm not blaming anyone, it's just disheartening and I'm sad. Because I want so much to build friendships and a community. I've put in so much work to achieve that and I've tried for years to do things like this and it just doesn't seem to work," the 32-year-old told the US magazine.
As many as six of the seven women canceled on the day of the party, she explained.
In addition, most of them were sorry and said that they wanted to build a friendly relationship with her.
Gillis is now quite happy with how things turned out. "This experience and community that we are starting to build because of this one video already feels so powerful," says the US-American.
