Florence (Italy) - Italian footballer Edoardo Bove (22) has been implanted with a defibrillator after collapsing during a Serie A match, according to media reports.

The operation in a hospital in Florence was successful, reported the newspapers "Gazzetta dello Sport" and "Corriere dello Sport".
The 22-year-old AC Florence professional has been in hospital for more than a week.
Bove collapsed on December 1 during the home game against Inter Milan after about a quarter of an hour. After a few minutes of first aid, the winger was taken to hospital by ambulance.
It later transpired that Bove had suffered a cardiac arrest. The suspected cause was myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle tissue.

Bove could soon leave hospital again
According to the two newspapers, Bove could be discharged from hospital in the next few days. A decision will also be made in the coming months as to whether the defibrillator can be removed again.
The permanent implantation of a defibrillator could have serious consequences for Bove's career as a professional footballer in Italy. Due to a strict passage in the Serie A regulations, Bove is threatened with the end of his sporting career in his home country.
Danish player Christian Eriksen suffered a similar fate three years ago when he was forced to retire from Inter Milan after suffering a cardiac arrest following the insertion of a permanent defibrillator.
