A passer-by alerted the police to the vehicle in a forest in the municipality of Altenfelden near the scene of the crime, according to the police in Upper Austria . The hunter has not yet been found. The police are warning local residents that the man may be traveling in the region.

Specialists are now examining the car for traces. In total, more than 250 officers are searching for the fugitive. "We are looking for a very dangerous person," says police spokesman David Furtner.

In the course of the manhunt, authorities in the Czech Republic and Germany were also alerted. According to earlier information from investigators, the man has two long guns and a handgun with him.

The wanted man is said to have killed two people with targeted shots to the head within less than two hours on Monday. They were the mayor of the village of Kirchberg ob der Donau and a former hunting guide.

According to police information, the background to the crime is likely to have been hunting disputes.

Because the man had arguments with numerous other people in the hunting scene, around 50 people were placed under police protection or taken to safe places as a precaution.
