After shock diagnosis: King Charles surprises with special New Year's honors
England - After a moving year for the British royal family, King Charles (76) used the turn of the year to honor special personalities - including a gesture full of gratitude: the monarch honored his doctors.

The news of Charles' cancer in February last year came as a surprise to many. All the more significant was the role of his medical team who cared for him during this difficult time.
As People reported, this year's New Year's Honors list includes two doctors who are believed to have been part of his treatment team.
One of the honorees is Dr. Douglas Glass, who was pharmacist to the late Queen Elizabeth II (†96). The second is Professor Richard Leach, a consultant physician at the renowned King Edward VII's Hospital in London, where members of the royal family have been treated for decades.
The honors are traditionally awarded at the turn of the year and on the monarch's official birthday, which is celebrated annually in June.
Not only well-known personalities, but also government officials and people who have made a special commitment to their community receive an award.
Other honorees this year included the Mayor of London, actress Carey Mulligan (39), writer Stephen Fry (67) and actress Sarah Lancashire (60).
