A representative for the 40-year-old told the Daily Mail: "This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are very grateful to everyone who has offered us their support. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Aubrey Plaza was actually due to host the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. However, she had canceled this due to her loss.

Plaza had been dating Baena since 2011 and married him in 2021. She had worked with her husband on films such as "Life After Beth" (2014), "The Little Hours" (2017) and "Spin Me Round" (2022).

Brady Corbet (36), the director of "The Brutalist", addressed the tragedy on stage on Sunday after receiving the award for best director.

"Finally, my heart goes out to Aubrey Plaza and Jeff's family tonight - good night," Corbet said. The camera then panned to a visibly moved Adrien Brody (51), who was sitting in the audience.

Other fellow actresses also offered Plaza words of comfort following the loss of her husband, including Julia Fox (34) and Selma Blair (52).

Actor and comedian Adam Pally (42) wrote on Instagram: "He was a talented director with impeccable taste and vision. He was a connector of people, a promoter of opportunity - the guy who always knew where the best restaurant was, no matter where you were."

Baena was found dead in his home on Friday. As People reported, citing forensic experts, the filmmaker had hanged himself with a rope.
