Building surveyor inspects two-year-old luxury home - and makes big eyes!
Charlotte (North Carolina) - For 1.6 million US dollars (1.55 million euros), you should be able to expect a lot. Especially when the new luxury property was not completed until 2022. Nevertheless, the buyers suspected that their new luxury home in Charlotte, North Carolina, was not in particularly good shape. That's why they hired building surveyor Andrew Matson (29). His eyes widened when he saw the property.
"I was hired by the buyers of the house to assess all the defects in the house and give them a better idea of what all needs to be fixed to make it a safe, livable house where you don't have to worry about deterioration, especially because of moisture coming in from the outside," the expert now said in an interview with Newsweek.
The US magazine had become aware of the story because Matson had landed a viral hit on TikTok a few weeks ago with footage of the house.
In the curious video, the 29-year-old presents defects in a continuous loop. Even from the outside, he complains about the broken guttering, cracks on one corner of the roof and cracks in the tiles.
The inside doesn't look any better. There, the expert experiences further surprises.
Viral TikTok video shows the numerous damages to the house
As he shakes a wobbly banister, he notices that a tile is moving. An air vent in the bathroom is not even connected. A sink is so clogged that Matson can't get it fixed.
His conclusion: "All these problems are not necessarily normal. But that's what happens when you choose the cheapest subcontractors. The worst was the roof, the guttering and all the places where water could easily get into the house."
Newsweek spoke to other experts about the house after this disaster. Real estate investor Brian Rudderow from HBR Colorado estimated the repair costs at around 200,000 US dollars (193,915 euros).
In the end, only the building expert Andrew Matson can be happy. He did a good job and produceda viral hit on TikTok, which now has 1.1 million clicks.
