Cat was locked in rabbit cage for years: Her reaction to new home touches so many

Boston (Massachusetts, USA) - For years, Luna led a sad life, mostly locked up in a rabbit cage that was far too small. Today, the cat is a proud 18 years old and has found a loving home.

On December 28, 2018, Julie Nashawaty discovered Luna, who was completely neglected at the time, at the animal shelter in Boston. The US-American originally just wanted to drop off her donations, but when she saw the elderly cat lady, there was an instant connection between them.

"She was tiny, fragile and had been through so much. After just two seconds together, I knew she was mine," Julie told Newsweek.

Luna had a difficult past. Several years ago, the beautiful Maine coon was rescued from cruel care. At the time, Luna lived with other cats in cramped rabbit cages.

Due to malnutrition and severe neglect, the furry friend weighed just 2.8 kilograms. Her teeth were also damaged and her paws are still discolored from dirt and faeces.

Despite the trauma, Luna still seems to have faith in humans - at least that's what a touching video on TikTok recently published by Julie shows.

It shows the cat cuddling up to her owner on her first night in her new home. Although she has experienced so much suffering, she obviously can't get enough cuddles.

"It's been six years since that day and I've spent that time telling her she's the queen of the universe," wrote Luna's owner in the clip.

The heartwarming video has been viewed more than 248,700 times so far and has touched many users. "Thank you for giving her a home and loving and protecting her forever," commented one user.

Today, the kitty is doing much better. However, due to her age, she is battling dementia and other health problems.
