"Catastrophic" burns from DIY bath salts: woman sues Meghan Markle

Maryland (USA) - A supposedly harmless recipe for bath salts, which Meghan Markle (43) showed in an episode of her Netflix series "With Love, Meghan", could now be her undoing. A woman from the US state of Maryland is said to have suffered "catastrophic" burns from the specially created cosmetic product.

Robin Patrick now wants to go to court because the bath salts are said to have caused her "considerable pain and cosmetic impairment", as Radar Online reports.

She had seen a clip of the preparation and wanted to copy the Duchess's recipe. The ingredients were Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, arnica and lavender oil.

The plaintiff wanted to try out her mixture immediately after preparing it and ran herself a bath. At first she felt a tingling sensation, but had no problems yet - this quickly changed.

"However, when the water level rose so high that it covered my legs and reached my buttocks, I felt a burning sensation," she recalled.

When the diabetic wanted to take a shower in the evening, the affected areas on her legs had already developed into small ulcers that burned badly on contact with water.

Victim is still suffering from her injuries

Since the incident, the victim has suffered from "constant burning and discomfort" and, according to her own statement, new blister-like sores and ulcers appear every day.

"The pain feels like it's burning from the inside out," she described.

If her demands are met, she agrees to an out-of-court settlement. Otherwise, she will file a lawsuit and demand at least 75,000 dollars in compensation.

She is also demanding 10 million dollars from Meghan Markle, Netflix and the show's production company for "reckless disregard for public safety".

According to Meghan's lawyer, the victim herself is to blame

Cameron Stracher, Meghan's lawyer, has already responded to the legal threats.

In his letter, he informed the woman that, as a diabetic, she should have known that the Epsom salts used contained substances unsuitable for her.

"It was not foreseeable that you would disregard the instructions on the packaging of the Epsom salt when attempting to make and use your own bath salts."

For this reason, "no claim for negligence can be made against anyone involved in the production or distribution of the range," it said.
