Çanakkale - There was a devastating bus accident in Turkey on Saturday afternoon in which eight people lost their lives.

At around 1.30 p.m., a coach collided with a truck full of tree trunks and a car in the city of Çanakkale, southwest of Istanbul, as reported by the Turkish news agency IHA.

A total of eight people were killed and 20 others were injured.

Meanwhile, pictures posted on social media show a field of wreckage: the completely destroyed bus is surrounded by dozens of tree trunks, half hanging in the ditch.

The truck tipped onto its side and spread its loaded timber across the road.

Rescue workers attended to the injured and the wrecked vehicles were towed away. Further details about the course of the accident were not yet known on Saturday afternoon.
