Construction worker discovers box behind wall during renovation: It has his name on it!

Lombard (USA) - It's nothing new that renovations often hold both pleasant and unpleasant surprises. But what a man (53) from the state of Illinois pulled out of his parents' wall during renovations is like a treasure!

Tim King, who runs a construction company in the Western Suburbs, helped his parents renovate their bathroom over the holidays.

A lot of chips fell in the process, as the walls of the small room in Lombard were also opened up. However, before the holes were filled in again, King decided to take a look behind the walls.

"We took out a medicine cabinet before drywalling, and I thought I'd better take a look inside to make sure there was nothing there," the US-American explains to PEOPLE. He was not prepared for what he discovered there:

Hidden behind the old walls, King pulled out a cardboard box that had once been wrapped in Christmas paper. Even more curious: it had his name on it!

The construction worker had accidentally discovered a 46-year-old gift that he was supposed to receive for Christmas as a child, but for unknown reasons it had fallen behind the wall and been forgotten.

The 53-year-old shared a video of the discovery on Instagram and called the find a "Christmas miracle". The clip quickly went viral and viewers begged King to reveal what was inside the Christmas present.

Shortly afterwards, the US American posted another video of him unpacking the box. Inside the box were Matchbox Thunder Jet model airplanes, which are now almost historic.

The gift was so old that not even King's mother, who must have bought the toy once, could remember it. The builder suspects that the box dates back to 1978, when he was around 6 years old.

But how did the gift end up behind the bathroom wall? The 53-year-old told PEOPLE that his parents always hid the presents in the attic. The box had apparently fallen unnoticed into a crawl space.

The now grown-up son is all the more pleased that his parents' present has now reached him after all.
