As the Mallorca Zeitung reports, two men aged 26 and 36 and a 28-year-old woman from Germany are said to have set fire to a garbage container near Balneario 8.

The flames spread at lightning speed, engulfing three other bins and causing considerable damage to a delivery van and the fence of a detached house.

A family was sleeping in the house at the time - the fire could have ended in disaster.

Residents reported hearing loud laughter just before the fire started.

The fire department arrived quickly, managed to prevent the worst and brought the flames under control. Nevertheless, the internet connection in the street was down for hours.

The trio must now answer for their actions in court

The police immediately launched an investigation, identified the suspected arsonists and arrested them.

The motive is still unclear. The three suspects are to be brought before a magistrate this Thursday.
