Couple takes in sick dog: What their dachshund then does makes hearts skip a beat

UK - He was only known for one thing at his doggy day care center: his big mouth. Whenever grumpy dachshund Hadley was left there by his owners Charlotte (23) and Jack (24), he barked angrily at the other dogs . This did not change when Hadley met a female of the same species last year. The sick, emaciated Vanilla had been dropped off at the day care center at some point and never picked up again.

Despite the adverse circumstances, the dachshunds from Great Britain are melting hearts by the dozen. The reason for this is a decision made by Hadley's owners. The couple decided to take poor Vanilla in last year.

"We saw Vanilla shivering in the corner and they told us she hadn't been eating or sleeping properly. She was skin and bones, and we had a feeling she wouldn't be here much longer if we left her there," Charlotte told Newsweek this week.

The couple took the sick dog to the vet, who could hardly do any tests on her because she was too emaciated. However, it quickly became clear that her teeth were broken. "The vet said that she had never experienced love," says Charlotte sadly.

When she and Jack took the furry friend home, it was completely unclear how grumpy Hadley would treat her.

Story of the dachshunds goes viral on Instagram and TikTok

For the first few days, Vanilla was so frightened that she didn't even dare leave her transport box. Then Hadley finally made his move. The dachshund took the new girl by the paw.

"Vanilla was allowed to lay her head on him and they slept together, which was so lovely to see. It showed that he had accepted her," Charlotte told the US magazine.

The dachshund also took the female under his wing in other ways. Vanilla then developed magnificently. She put on weight and became healthy again.

"Vanilla learned everything about family life and dog life from Hadley. She still imitates him when she is unsure about a particular situation. Vanilla has made great progress and really is a different dog," says Charlotte.

For a few days now, a photo story on TikTok and Instagram has been telling the story of the pelt-noses. Since then, the work has collected hundreds of thousands of likes.
