Jamaica - When a dream vacation turns into a nightmare: Cierra Stockard had traveled to Jamaica to swim with dolphins. This resulted in a freak accident in which the mother of two was seriously injured.

The accident occurred on Monday. Cierra, who comes from the US state of Tennessee, was visiting the popular tourist attraction "Dolphin Cove". There it is possible to swim and play with dolphins in their natural habitat.

"They push you through the water and it's like you're gliding through the sea," enthuses the US-American in a telephone conversation with the radio station"WKRN".

But then something happened that nobody had expected: during a supposedly harmless game, Cierra was injured on the hip by the dorsal fin of a bottlenose dolphin. A huge hematoma formed on her body, causing severe pain.

"It felt like a car accident. The force of the impact - it felt like a bang," recalls the vacationer.

Family wants to bring Cierra home and is collecting donations

The injury was so serious that she had to undergo emergency surgery at Cornwall Hospital in Montego Bay on the same day. Because Cierra also suffers from sickle cell anemia, a congenital disease of the red blood cells, she also received two blood transfusions.

Although her condition is currently stable, the mother-of-two would probably need several transfusions if she were to stay longer. In the meantime, sister Nevaeh Garton and aunt Kimberley Watkins have traveled to Jamaica to support Cierra.

They have only one goal: Cierra must return to her home country and her children as quickly as possible. However, at the equivalent of 41,000 euros, transportation to the USA is too expensive and the insurance company does not want to pay.

The family is now collecting donationson GoFundMe. The equivalent of almost 20,000 euros has already been raised.
