Texistepec (Mexico) - Horrific: At a rally with hundreds of supporters in Mexico, the popular local politician Yesenia Lara Gutiérrez (†49) was shot dead in front of the cameras. Three other people died with her.

Shocking scenes unfolded on the streets of the city of Texistepec on Monday evening, according to a report by CNN. An election campaign event of the ruling Morena party was overshadowed by a horrific act of bloodshed when the promising mayoral candidate Yesenia Lara Gutiérrez and three of her fellow campaigners were gunned down.

A livestream on Facebook shows the incident. Lara Gutiérrez walks through the city center with supporters, greeting them cheerfully and handing out flyers. The atmosphere is exuberant, the crowd is cheering. Suddenly shots are heard. Chaos breaks out. Panicked people try to flee.

Another shot shows the politician hugging a voter, then people in the background open fire.

Yesenia Lara Gutiérrez had no chance. She was shot in the head. Rescue workers rushed to the scene could only determine her death. Three of her supporters also died in the hail of bullets.

After the deadly attack, the shock in Texistepec is enormous. Leading politicians condemned the gruesome act of bloodshed. The perpetrators were able to escape, but it is unclear who they are.

Particularly tragic: the politician's husband, Enrique Argüelles Montero, was shot dead by unknown persons in November 2022. He was also a politician for the Morena party and most recently sat on the Texistepec city council, reports the Infobae portal.
