Dog abandoned on highway: The way he reacts to his rescuers leaves no eye dry

California (USA) - What an unusual rescue operation!

Last week, Suzette Hall received a heartbreaking phone call from her friend Denisse Maldonado: over the past few days, she had regularly noticed a lonely dog squatting on the side of a highway, seemingly waiting for someone to come and put him out of his misery.

Every time he spotted Maldonado, he would happily wag his tail and run towards her, knowing that she was sure to have some treats for him.

So it was no wonder that Hall immediately realized that she had to rescue this furry friend. Come what may.

Without further ado, she set off with a colleague and Maldonado, as she has since reported on Facebook .

Once they arrived at the dog 's location, the women set up a trap that they actually wanted to lure the animal into. What happened next, however, left the three of them speechless: the stray seemed to sense that they had come to help him.

As soon as he saw her, he started wagging his tail happily and ran straight into the small cage.

And lo and behold, the rescue was complete!

Hall then enthusiastically gave him a hot dog as a reward for being such a good boy. He was then taken to the vet.

"We were so happy," Hall wrote contentedly. "He gave us a huge smile because he knew he was safe. No more highway noises at night, no more lonely days. He'll never have to worry about how he's going to get his next meal again."

Now Hall has made it his mission to find a forever basket for the furry friend. Until then, he will remain in her care.
