The Ministry of the Interior of the South Caucasus republic assumes it was an accident. The police are investigating. No injuries or traces of violence were found among the dead in the town of Gudauri.

However, a generator had been in operation in the staff rooms near the bedrooms - probably after the power supply had been interrupted. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a common occurrence when generators are used in enclosed spaces.

Eleven of the dead were Indians, the Indian embassy in the Georgian capital Tbilisi announced in a post on Platform X.

According to the authorities, one of them is Georgian.

Gudauri is located in the north of Georgia and is around 120 kilometers from Tbilisi. The area high in the Caucasus is popular for winter sports.
