Exorbitant apartment attracts criticism: is this XXL price justified?

Zurich - The fact that Switzerland is an expensive place to live is nothing new. But this apartment in Zurich is currently being criticized. The reason is the exorbitant price.

A furnished room is currently being offered on the landlord platform"Homegate". Although the apartment is in a good location - in the city center and close to Lake Zurich - the price for 14 square meters is probably exorbitant.

The "Studio Apartment Single Kitchenette", as it is called on the site, costs CHF 2602 per month. Converted, that's around 2770 euros - almost 200 euros per square meter.

There is a double bed in the room, with a shower (behind a glass wall) and a washbasin right next to it. The "kitchen" only contains a fridge, a coffee machine and a microwave. There is still space for a desk and a television.

"The ultra-modern furniture makes use of every centimeter and offers clever solutions to make the most of the space," says the ad, which is written in English and is therefore aimed more at business people. "A compact apartment with style."

According to the Swiss portal"20min", criticism of such offers is becoming ever louder. The city of Zurich is now taking action against the proliferation of business and Airbnb apartments.

According to a court ruling, a maximum of ten percent of apartments in residential zones may be used as furnished short-term rentals.

Visionapartments is behind the ad. Its founder is Anja Graf, part of the Swiss "Höhle der Löwen" team. She does not see a problem with the large number of apartment rentals in Zurich.

After all, pets are allowed according to the ad. But who wants to share this cramped space with another living creature?
