As reported by an international research team - including"ZDF frontal", "Spiegel" and "Washington Post" - Viktoriya Roshchyna (†27) fell into the clutches of Putin's henchmen while reporting on his torture facilities.

It was August 2023 when the reporter was arrested while working in the Russian-occupied city of Enerhodar in eastern Ukraine and abducted to Melitopol (Zaporizhzhya Oblast).

According to Ukrainian investigators, Roshchyna was probably held there in garages - converted into torture prisons - before being transferred to the Russian city of Taganrog (50 kilometers from the Ukrainian border), where the FSB secret service is holding hundreds of Ukrainian civilians and soldiers for no reason.

According to a cellmate, the journalist continued to lose weight, had several cuts on her arm and leg and was repeatedly tortured with electric shocks. She finally died in September 2024.

Terrible acts were then committed against her body. According to the Ukrainian public prosecutor's office, the examination of her body, which was handed over six months later, revealed that her brain, eyes and parts of her larynx had been removed.

"The body was handed over frozen, with late cadaveric changes in the form of pronounced dehydration (mummification), putrefaction, partial detachment of the epidermis and weight loss with pronounced signs of malnutrition," the Ukrainian authorities said.

The Kremlin itself denies that the woman was ever held in the FSB prison in Taganrog.

"In response to your request, we inform you that according to the documents, Roshchyna Viktoriya was not detained in pre-trial detention center No. 2," a spokesperson said.

Ukrainian soldier Yevgeny Markevich testified the exact opposite to the international research team. He had served time with the journalist in Taganrog and got to know her as a person who was not afraid to speak her mind to the prison guards.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Oleksandra Matvychuk (41) emphasizes that torture of Ukrainian civilians by Russian soldiers or secret service employees is systematic. ZDF and its partners were able to identify 29 Russian detention centers alone that use torturous methods, with reference to consistent sources.

After the shocking research became known, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany explained via X that he was repeatedly asked whether he would accept the transfer of territory. He could only answer: "Would you accept Russia's torture system?"
