Family has been looking for a dog for a week: when the doorbell rings at night, they are speechless
Clay County (Florida) - Suddenly she was gone: Athena disappeared from her home in Clay County, Florida, on December 15. The family of the husky-shepherd mix was left reeling. Brooke Comer, her husband and their two children desperately tried everything to find their beloved furry friend. Nine days later, at 2.30 in the morning, they were left speechless.

It was a bitter blow for the Comers when Athena suddenly disappeared in the middle of the month. The US family immediately set about searching for the dog with posters and Facebook posts.
"Every day I would come home after searching day and night. I was out there everywhere and they came back heartbroken (...) there were a few nervous breakdowns," the mother of two described the ordeal to WTVG this week.
They were quickly joined by numerous neighbors who wanted to help. "People from Jacksonville and Saint Augustine sent me emails," Comer told the US site.
Athena was repeatedly spotted on videos from door cameras. But no one managed to catch the furry friend. On the evening of December 23, the family prepared for a Christmas without her.
But then the doorbell rang early on December 24.
Heartbreaking story is spread by numerous media outlets in the USA

"It was about 2:30 in the morning. She came to the door with her paw and rang the doorbell," the US native told WTVG.
"I was excited, but I tried not to wake the kids up, but the kids still woke up with excitement," she added.
Since the Comers also have a door camera, they were later able to post the video of Athena ringing the doorbell online. For this reason, several media outlets became aware of the heartbreaking story, which is now considered a "Christmas miracle".
Meanwhile, the family has learned from its mistakes. In the new year, they want to have their four-year-old dog neutered and chipped as soon as possible.
