Last Sunday, 28-year-old Zuleika Witron was traveling with her girlfriend and two dogs in the US state of Washington when the accident happened.

As People reports, there has been no trace of Witron since.

"On March 23 at around 12 noon, a woman and her dog (...) slipped into the Carbon River. A relative witnessed them being swept away by the strong current," the police said in a press release.

Paramedics were quickly called to the scene of the accident and immediately began searching for the woman and her four-legged friend.

Due to the impassable terrain and a 15-metre-deep ravine, the rescue teams used drones to facilitate the search operation.

A helicopter from the US Coast Guard was also alerted, but had to abort the mission due to the bad weather.

Fortunately, the police were able to find the dog alive about 400 meters from the scene of the accident, but there was no trace of its owner.

After six hours, the search had to be interrupted due to the onset of darkness, but was continued the next morning.

So far, the 28-year-old has not been found. The police are now hoping that the weather at the scene will improve soon, which will make the search easier.
