Holidaymakers think the reason why they are not allowed in the sea is a joke: then they are speechless

Sri Lanka - It is actually known for its golden sandy beach, turquoise waters and the opportunity to plunge into the sea. But Mirissa Beach in the south of Sri Lanka had a completely different surprise in store for Noémie (27) and her boyfriend Robin (27) last month.

Noémie (27) and her boyfriend Robin (27) were looking forward to a swim in the Indian Ocean. But the beautiful appearance was deceptive.

The couple from France couldn't believe it at first. "The bartenders said no because there was a crocodile in the water. At first we thought it was a joke, until we saw it," the couple told Newsweek in an interview this week.

Noémie then grabbed her cell phone and tried to get the predator in front of the lens from a safe distance for her TikTok channel "Soul of Romi Travel".

In the video, the crocodile is only dimly visible in the sea. The Frenchwoman had to zoom in very close, which makes the image even more pixelated.

Fortunately, the drama only lasted one day. However, when the tourists returned to the beach the next day, they first consulted the police.

"The next day we were able to swim because the police said it was safe," the Frenchmen told the US magazine.

In addition to the swamp crocodile, there are also saltwater crocodiles in Sri Lanka. One of these specimens had swum there the day before, of all places, even though it is a tourist hotspot.

Mirissa Beach is known for activities such as surfing and snorkeling. Whales can also be observed from here. Saltwater crocodiles, on the other hand, rarely stray onto the beach.

However, the animals are known to appear near estuaries and occasionally on the coast. Tourists should therefore be prepared for a lot in Sri Lanka!

In any case, Noémie's clip is beyond reproach. The viral hit has reached almost 800,000 clickson TikTok since last month.
