As CBC reports, Jesslyn Schigol and her family, as well as Allison Field and her husband and child, were not only struck down by severe food poisoning - they also described how they were prevented from leaving. It was to prevent them from speaking ill of their stay at the Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun!

The harrowing events unfolded when Jesslyn's husband suddenly fell seriously ill on Christmas morning. Allison Field's family also suffered massive gastrointestinal problems after eating food at the resort.

As Jesslyn's husband's condition became increasingly dramatic, she went to the front desk for help. But what she experienced was beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

The staff demanded that she sign a non-disclosure agreement in order to receive medical attention from the resort doctor - on the condition that she would not hold the resort accountable or speak publicly about her experience.

When Jesslyn refused, she was told in no uncertain terms that there would be no doctor without her signature. Instead of caring for the sick guests, the resort seemed more concerned about its reputation.

Other guests had to contend with similar symptoms

The family of Allison Field, who was also seriously ill, wanted to leave the resort out of fear for her health.

But the staff put them under extreme pressure to also sign a non-disclosure agreement before they were allowed to leave the resort and go to the hospital.

Their attempts to leave the accommodation were blocked. They were held for more than an hour while their young son grew weaker and shivered.

The hotel even offered the family money to keep them quiet - the amount kept increasing. But the family stood firm and refused to sign.

Finally, after long discussions, the family managed to leave the resort and go to the hospital. There it quickly became apparent that they had contracted food poisoning. Bacteria, which had apparently been transmitted via undercooked fish, had caused their severe gastrointestinal problems. The young son even had to spend a whole 16 hours in hospital due to severe dehydration.

Other guests are also said to have shown similar symptoms, but they signed the non-disclosure agreement and kept quiet. The resort itself has now launched an investigation into the allegations and promised an internal investigation.
