Las Palmas de Gran Canaria - A young man attacked several people with a large knife outside the airport of the Spanish vacation island of Gran Canaria and was shot dead by police.

According to the island's judiciary , the man was apparently beside himself and ran at high speed with a knife in his hand between travelers at the airport cab rank while police officers chased him.
After he attacked a cab driver, knocked down a police officer and attacked another officer, the officers opened fire.
The 18-year-old was shot five times, one of them in the neck, according to the judiciary. An investigation has been opened.
The motive for the attack was initially unknown. Shortly before the attacks and the fatal shots, the man, who had arrived on the island as a migrant from Gambia in 2006, had tried to enter the departure area, as the newspaper "Canarias7" reported, citing eyewitnesses.
