Man hangs his dog, but does not have to go to prison
Sault Ste. Marie (Canada) - The case sounds extremely brutal and yet a man gets off without a prison sentence. Jason Howson, a 40-year-old Canadian, hanged his dog from a tree. His motives for this act came to light in court.
CTV News Northern Ontario reports that a man doing roofing work on March 23 around 3:30 p.m. local time heard noises from a wooded area that reminded him of women screaming.
Later, witnesses observed a man wearing a hoodie and sunglasses running out of the wooded area towards a residential building.
When the police arrived on the scene, they discovered a four-legged friend with black fur, muzzle and collar tied to a fallen tree.
A short time later, the officers became aware of Howson's home. At first, the man told the investigators a lie, claiming that his dog had disappeared without a trace.
He later corrected himself, clarifying that he had killed the animal and then wanted to come back to bury it.
Dog should have been euthanized
It was also his undoing that he had worn exactly the clothes that witnesses had reported.
The tragic truth came out in court. He had adopted the problem dog, a Labrador-Dobermann mix, because he hoped to "correct" it with patience and love.
However, the dog had bitten children and his girlfriend several times, which is why it had been ordered that the vicious four-legged friend had to be put down.
He would have had to pay 400 dollars (the equivalent of almost 300 euros) for euthanasia, which is why he decided to take matters into his own hands.
The 40-year-old was sentenced for his actions, but does not have to go behind Swedish bars. To ensure that Dax is not forgotten, neighbors nearby erected a memorial to the deceased dog.
