Following the killing of the 14-year-old girl in the south of Sweden, a 15-year-old has been charged with murder.

A 13-year-old girl is also suspected of murder, according to a statement from the Swedish public prosecutor's office.

The trial is due to begin on Thursday at Lund District Court.

"I believe that both girls were equally involved in both the planning and the execution of the crime," explained the responsible public prosecutor Pernilla Nilsson.

The two had committed the crime together and in agreement.

Girls deny the accusation of murder

The 14-year-old was killed in July in a secluded industrial area in Landskrona in southern Sweden. According to the public prosecutor's office, she was lured to the small town in the belief that she had been invited to a party.

At the scene of the crime, she was then attacked, tied up and subjected to severe violence by the other two girls she knew. She died as a result of her injuries. The case caused horror in Sweden.

According to her defense lawyer, the 15-year-old denies the accusation of murder, as reported by the TT news agency. The 13-year-old also denies responsibility for the crime. She is still too young to be sentenced. Nevertheless, the public prosecutor's office has filed an application to examine whether she is guilty of murder.
