This Wednesday morning at around 5.20 a.m. (local time), ten ambulances and numerous other emergency services rushed to the Gainsborough nursing home in the small town of Swanage, as reported by theMirror.

It was already too late for three victims. Dorset Police confirmed that they had received a report of the deceased at around 7.16am.

Shortly afterwards, the families of the deceased were notified and further investigations were launched.

All residents of the facility had to be evacuated for safety reasons. A subsequent investigation by the fire department provided initial indications of the suspected cause. It may have been carbon monoxide poisoning, but this could not yet be confirmed.

After the affected residents were brought to safety in a public church, a large exclusion zone was set up around the home.

It is not believed that there is any danger to the public. Gas safety experts are currently waiting to gain access to the building.

The community hopes for help for the evacuees

A spokesperson for the Gainsborough care home has since stated that the evacuees are now "safe and well". He emphasized that the welfare of the residents is a top priority.

"We know this is a stressful and worrying time for everyone involved and we have deployed additional staff resources to provide support on the ground," he said.

Residents, meanwhile, have been urged to provide warm blankets and hot drinks for residents if they can.

"Our sympathies and condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones in this tragic event this morning. For Swanage, a small community, this is a shocking event," said Councillor Gary Suttle.
