Mysterious injuries to babies in infant ward: police arrest woman

USA - After several babies suffered "unexplained fractures" in a hospital, a woman has now been arrested in connection with this.

Several children were found injured in the neonatal unit at Henrico Doctors Hospital in the US state of Virginia weeks ago.

The injuries were said to be "similar to an incident involving four babies in the summer of 2023".

According to People, Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, 26, was named as a suspect in at least one of the cases yesterday, Friday.

She worked at the hospital.

"Ms. Strotman is charged with willful assault and child abuse in connection with an incident in November 2024," police said .

Investigators are also looking into the incidents from 2023 to uncover possible connections.

"We are both shocked and saddened by this development in the investigation and are focused on continuing to be there for our patients," stated the hospital concerned.

It also stressed that it had taken immediate steps "to enhance safety measures" - including new safety training programs, additional physical examinations of each baby, the installation of new monitoring systems, live streaming technology and other measures.

Police continue to investigate and are currently reviewing several hundred hours of video footage.
