Rome (Italy) - Sead Kolašinac (31) has been under contract with Atalanta Bergamo for almost two years and won the UEFA Europa League with the Italian top club last season . However, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian international, whose Serie A chapter has been accompanied by numerous setbacks, is now going through an extremely difficult phase.

The 31-year-old had to undergo surgery for a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee - and will be out for several months, according to his club.

The former Bundesliga professional underwent an arthroscopy [arthroscopy, editor's note] of his left knee to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament, the traditional club from the north of the country announced in an official statement.

There is no cause for concern, however, as the procedure carried out by Professor Pier Paolo Mariani was successful.

"The footballer will begin his rehabilitation program immediately," continued the statement from yesterday, Tuesday.

"Now it's time to recover, rebuild and come back stronger than ever," Kolašinac, who had previously been forced to take a break due to several injuries, announced on the social media platform Instagram.

He also posted a photo of himself in his hospital bed and added: "Thank you for all your support."

Last Sunday, Kolašinac suffered a torn cruciate ligament during his team's 2-0 home win against FC Bologna and was stretchered off the pitch shortly before half-time.

Kolašinac started his professional career at FC Schalke 04 and played a total of 94 Bundesliga games for the Royal Blues from 2012 to 2017. After four years at English Premier League club FC Arsenal, he returned to the club on loan before moving to Olympique Marseille in 2022.
