She's alive! Researcher rescued from cave after four days
Bergamo (Italy) - Almost four days after her tragic fall in a cave, explorer Ottavia Piana (32) finally sees the night sky again.

According to a report by Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the 32-year-old was rescued by a rescue team at around 2.59 am today (Wednesday) and flown to a nearby hospital.
It is assumed that she lost her footing last Saturday while exploring the "Abisso Bueno Fonteno" cave near Bergamo and then fell six meters into the depths. The labyrinth of caves was only discovered in 2006 and is still largely unexplored.
The woman broke several bones, including some ribs, and suffered a head injury as a result of the fall.
Rescuers had to blast their way out

Some of the 150 rescue workers were able to provide initial care for Ottavia in the cave, but it turned out that rescuing her would be very complicated.
The cave is so narrow in many places that the stretcher would not have fit through. For this reason, it was decided to use small warheads to make their way to the exit.
While still in the cave, Ottavia is said to have told a doctor that she would never want to go on such an expedition again.
