Storm causes chaos at Mallorca airport: almost all flights delayed
Palma de Mallorca - After the storms ravaged mainland Spain, storms and heavy rainfall have now reached the Balearic Islands. Mallorca in particular has been hit hard.

Chaos broke out at Palma airport in particular. As the Mallorca Zeitung reported, there were already delays of more than five hours on Friday morning at around 11am.
In the afternoon, when heavy rain and storms hit, the situation is said to have worsened once again. Virtually all aircraft were unable to take off on time, it was reported. Connections also had to be canceled.
Air traffic controllers published a video on "X" that clearly shows how poor visibility was from the airport tower during the storms.
The airport operator "Aena" called on all passengers to contact the airlines about delays.
Planes did not take off again until late afternoon, around 5.45 pm.

Storms on Mallorca: Fire brigade in constant operation

As reported by the Europapress news agency, the fire department had to respond almost 90 times on Friday, as well as once on the neighboring island of Menorca.
Although the sun was still shining in the morning, heavy rain and thunderstorms set in in the afternoon. The second-highest orange warning level was in force.
Three women and a teenager found themselves in danger when they were surprised by the rapidly rising water levels near Galatzó in the west of the island. The fire department rescued the family in a closed hotel building where they had previously sought shelter.
According to the local newspaper Diario de Mallorca, the Serra d'Àlfàbia mountain range north of Palma was hit the hardest. There, 112.9 liters of rain per square meter fell.
There was initially no news of any damage or injuries following the storms.
