In the early evening of April 22, a Brinks armored car lost three bags of cash on Austin Boulevard in Oak Park when the back door of the vehicle suddenly opened.

As a result, bills scattered across the street and passersby stopped, ran and grabbed what they could, USA Today reports.

According to the police, there were between 50 and 100 people who collected money in a very short space of time and made off with it - on foot or by car. A total of around 300,000 dollars is missing.

The drivers of the van returned quickly, but by then most of the money was already gone. There is still no trace of the stolen money.

A spokesperson for Oak Park council confirmed the incident, but Brinks himself refused to make any statement, citing employee safety.

However, such incidents are not unique: money bags have also fallen out of Brinks vehicles in Indianapolis in 2018 and in California in 2021.
