Trade association sounds the alarm: these Temu articles can be really dangerous!

Berlin - A trade association has scrutinized the Chinese online platform Temu and made frightening discoveries. Investigations showed that some articles could be really dangerous.

The trade association tested lashing straps and loop straps from Temu. Among other things, the articles exhibited deformation, understrength and poor breaking strength.

The Fachverband Seile und Anschlagmittel e.V. (FSA) wanted to see for itself the quality of the products coming from a platform that is particularly notable for its low prices and aggressive advertising. Test purchases were made and the products put through their paces. The result: worrying!

The trade association found considerable safety risks when testing lashing straps and loop straps.

The Temu products were found to be deformed, significantly understrength and "dramatically" below the required breaking strength.

In addition, inadmissible CE markings, incorrect or no marking of the associated maximum working load and incorrect color coding were found.

Production defects in Temu products are often invisible to the naked eye

The trade association therefore warns that there are considerable "risks to life and limb" for consumers.

"Quality assurance and compliance with European standards were not guaranteed for the products purchased," it said in a statement on Monday.

The defects identified during the FSA's investigations could lead to "serious safety problems" during use. The fact that the production defects cannot be seen with the naked eye is all the more insidious.

For this reason, the trade association has already alerted the Düsseldorf district government. It also called on the Chinese low-cost platform to take responsibility and ensure that the products on offer do not pose a risk to customers.

It is nothing new that Temu is being criticized - especially by consumer advocates. The federal government only announced at the end of January that it intends to monitor portals such as Temu and Shein more closely. This is not only due to brazen plagiarism or unfair competitive conditions, but also to quality deficiencies and a lack of safety standards.
