As reported by 101tv Málaga, the 20-year-old Briton fell on the famous Caminito del Rey via ferrata, one of Spain's best-known hiking trails, which is equipped with a metal railing.

Hikers normally secure themselves there with a climbing harness and carabiners to minimize the risk of falling. Despite these safety precautions, a terrible incident occurred on Wednesday.

The young man fell while crossing a particularly difficult section of the path and suffered serious injuries.

The emergency services from the Guardia Civil GREIM flew to the remote area in a helicopter and found the injured man unconscious. Despite immediate resuscitation measures, the 20-year-old eventually succumbed to the consequences of cardiac arrest.

An autopsy is now to clarify what exactly led to the fall.
