When her mother opens her son's book after 25 years, she realizes everything
USA/Caracas (Venezuela) - Curious discovery after 25 years: She just wanted to clean out a little. Instead, a mother from Caracas, Venezuela, uncovered an old secret about her son. As a teenager, the now 40-year-old had misappropriated his Guinness Book of Records from 1975 - although he had originally only borrowed it from the school library.

This week, the man, who now lives in the USA, made a "confession" to Newsweek: he started smoking back then. Of course, this was frowned upon at the age of 14 or 15.
Although the story is a trifle, the immigrant preferred to remain anonymous and did not even reveal his first name to the US magazine.
However, he was in a chatty mood when it came to his curious secret from back then. He had cut two compartments in the book with a Swiss army knife to hide his lighter and pack of cigarettes.
Although his mother knew nothing about the hiding place at the time, she had cooperated with him in other ways.
Late regrets after 25 years

"Not long after that, my mother, who also smoked, and I started sharing cigarettes. My father was not happy about this arrangement," he told the news magazine.
The Hollywood film "The Shawshank Redemption" - now a classic - gave him the idea for the stash. In it, Tim Robbins plays Andy Dufresne, an innocent convict who hides a geologist's hammer in a Bible in order to free himself from prison.
"I thought it would be a good hiding place for my pack of cigarettes and a Zippo lighter," explained the man. Today, however, he sees things differently. "Now I regret defacing a book for my nefarious purposes, borrowing it from the library and never returning it."
He and his mother also gave up smoking a long time ago. What remains is a funny memento.
