Erin Patterson (50) is not only said to be responsible for the death of her ex-husband Simon Patterson 's family , but was also accused of attempting to kill him herself on several occasions.

However, as the BBC reports, the public prosecutor's office has dropped the charges of attempted murder against her ex-husband on three occasions - it is not yet clear why.

The charges relating to the alleged poisoning with mushrooms remain in place.

She herself pleaded not guilty to all the charges against her.

It had previously been reported that she would have to stand trial for three counts of murder and attempted murder - the latter has now been dropped.

But what had actually happened? In the summer of 2023, she had invited her parents-in-law and their relatives to a lunch in Leongatha, Australia . Simon was also supposed to attend, but declined the invitation.

It later transpired that the dish served, a Beef Wellington, contained extremely poisonous mushrooms. Three of the four invited guests were taken to hospital and died a short time later.

The trial, which is scheduled to last around five to six weeks, starts on Wednesday.
