Icelander Jessý was lucky enough to be able to watch the spectacle live. Thanks to her video, millions of viewers on TikTok can now also take part.

The curious clip begins with a panorama of the city, with rockets flying into the sky at midnight. Then it happens: All of a sudden, green colors mix in - the Northern Lights.

It was not an unexpected sight for Jessý. But the lights and the fact that they appeared almost at the same time as the new year took her breath away.

However, the whole thing was preceded by a change of plans, as the woman revealedin an interview with Newsweekthis week.

"When I saw the aurora forecast (...) predicting a direct solar storm, I changed my New Year's Eve plans and didn't go into the heart of downtown to celebrate."

Instead, she dressed nice and warm and waded through the snow to a well-known viewpoint in the city, Jessý told the US magazine.

Then she hoped that the lights would be visible behind the lights of the skyline and the New Year's Eve fire smog. As soon as the first rockets went off, the TikToker's hopes were fulfilled. "I'm a scientist, so I enjoy the Northern Lights," she told the news magazine.

She shows even greater enthusiasm in her video. In it, the Northern European talks about "one of the coolest things" she has ever experienced. "Hope it's a good omen for 2025!" she adds.

A hope shared by quite a few TikTok users. In total, the video has already received 1.3 million clicks and around 140,000 likes since the New Year.
