Edison (USA) -Hundreds of teenagers escalated at a shopping center in the US state of New Jersey at the weekend! According to the police, more than 300 teenagers were in the mall when a mass brawl broke out. Several teenagers were arrested.

The incident took place on Saturday evening at around 8 pm (local time) at the Menlo Park Mall in the city of Edison, located between the metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia.

The city's mayor, Sam Joshi, confirmed the incident on his own Instagram profile. The Edison Police Department (EPD) had been informed "that over 300 youths had gathered at the Menlo Park shopping center and a fight had broken out."

No weapons were reportedly used, Joshi explained. There were also no serious injuries, according to the mayor. Neighboring communities were notified and assisted the police in breaking up the crowd.

The politician emphasized that none of the young people arrested were from Edison. According to Joshi, there were a total of four arrests. Thomas Bryan, chief of police in Edison , spoke of seven arrests , according to My Central Jersey .

One of the youths is even to be charged with grievous bodily harm to a police officer. The others are accused of disturbing the peace and, in one case, resisting arrest.

In the days leading up to the incident, calls to gather at the shopping center on Saturday night were reportedly posted on TikTok and Instagram. This was reported by NJ.com. Footage of the youth gathering exists on social media, but it initially appeared peaceful.

It is still unclear why the situation ultimately escalated. The police are investigating.
