Novice driver crashes jeep over harbor jetty, but the end of the tour is astonishing

Brookhaven (USA) - A novice driver from the state of New York apparently overestimated her driving skills and crashed over a jetty. But the kamikaze ride surprisingly ended with an accurate landing.

As reported bythe New York Post, the unusual accident occurred on Sunday evening at a harbor in Brookhaven.

The 17-year-old driver first sped across the jetty, crashed through a partition wall and then broke through a wooden railing.

The curious joyride was captured on video by an eyewitness, which Dan Panico, Brookhaven's local councillor, later posted on Facebook. "Every day I wake up and never know what the day will bring," he wrote.

The clip shows how the silver-colored Jeep initially threatens to plunge vertically into the water - but the jetty underneath absorbs the impact and ensures a clean landing.

One of the car's wheels was still dangerously close to the water, so a quick rescue was urgently needed.

Rescue workers from the fire department freed the teenager from the crashed car and she was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

Panico described the driver as "inexperienced" afterwards, but said he was glad that the accident had ended without too much trouble given the potentially fatal consequences.

Since Sunday, the SUV has been secured to the dock with several ropes, and a heavy-duty tow truck is to remove the jeep.
