Colombo (Sri Lanka) - Another young British tourist (21) has been arrested, this time in Sri Lanka . She is also facing a long prison sentence under harsh conditions .

According to the Daily Mail , Charlotte May Lee was arrested at the airport in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Monday after arriving from Bangkok.

Customs officials found cannabis worth around 1.37 million euros in her luggage. The authorities later presented dozens of bags of drugs that the 21-year-old was carrying.

Since her arrest, Charlotte has been in custody in an overcrowded cell that she has to share with around 20 other women.

Friends and family are stunned. Nobody would have thought the young woman capable of something like this, according to her acquaintances.

According to The Sun, Charlotte's entourage has recently hinted that she wants to meet a man in Thailand after a difficult separation. It is not yet clear whether he is involved in the case.

She had previously worked as a flight attendant at TUI for a summer before starting training as an eyelash stylist a few months ago.

On her social media channels , she proudly showed herself wearing the TUI uniform and later happily traveling through Thailand. She posted pictures of white beaches, parties and selfies. On the day of her arrest, she even posted a TikTok video from the plane wearing a face mask.

The British embassy is involved, but has already announced that the young woman could face a prison sentence of between 20 and 25 years.

The investigation is ongoing.

The case is reminiscent of Bella May Culley , an 18-year-old British woman who was arrested in Georgia a few days ago. Like Charlotte, she had previously been in Thailand.

The authorities also found a large quantity of drugs on her person.

She is also facing a long prison sentence in an outdated, overcrowded and unhygienic prison.

According to media reports, she is also said to be pregnant .

It is not yet known whether there is a connection between the two British women.
