Fatal fall in winter sports paradise: LEGO manager dies while skiing
Verbier (Switzerland) - As manager of the world's largest toy manufacturer, Michael Halbye (†64) was about to take some time out in a Swiss ski resort. But one descent ended fatally for him.

According to the Danish newspaper"Ekstra Bladet", the tragic accident occurred last Saturday in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier.
The 64-year-old was skiing down the Chassoure mountain into the valley when he suddenly lost control at high speed and crashed.
Although the emergency services were able to take the LEGO manager to a nearby hospital, it was already too late for him.
The doctors on site could do nothing more for the casualty. He was pronounced dead the same day. According to the hospital report, Halbye died of severe internal bleeding that he had suffered during his fall.
Halbye was the deputy chairman of the Danish public limited company "Kirkbi", which owns and manages a large share of the LEGO brand. In a press release issued by the company, Thomas Kirk Kristiansen (46) - the CEO of Kirkbi - announced the death of his long-time colleague and friend.
In addition to the words of sadness, Kristiansen also remembers the good times he had with the deceased and writes that he "left a great and positive impression on those around him".
Michael Halbye was a close confidant of the Danish royal family
In addition to his work as the administrator of the world's largest toy manufacturer, Halbye also had a close relationship with the Danish royal family, more specifically with Queen Mary (53) of Denmark herself.
The two worked together in the "Mary Foundation". The aim of the organization is to combat serious social problems such as loneliness and domestic violence and to promote the mental health of those affected.
